ECES Supports Coordinadora de la Mujer in Advancing Women’s Political Participation in Bolivia
As part of its ongoing commitment to inclusive and democratic electoral processes, the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) hosted a strategic meeting at its premises in La Paz with representatives of the Coordinadora de la Mujer, Bolivia’s foremost feminist civil society network.
The meeting brought together Luis Castellar, Coordinator of the EU-funded PRO-Election Bolivia project, and Tania Sánchez and Gabriela Murillo from la Coordinadora de la Mujer. The discussion focused on joint actions to address and prevent political harassment and violence against women (AVP) in the context of Bolivia’s 2025–2026 electoral cycle. Recognizing the leadership and long-standing advocacy of la Coordinadora, ECES expressed its full support for the implementation of Bolivia’s groundbreaking legislation on democratic parity, a regional benchmark in the promotion of women's political participation.
The two organisations agreed to formalize their cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will be signed during the upcoming visit to Bolivia of Fabio Bargiacchi, ECES Founder and Executive Director. This partnership marks a significant step forward in reinforcing gender equality and protecting women’s rights within Bolivia’s democratic processes.
