International Congress "Walking Towards Parity and Democracy"

Katia Uriona Gamarra, the gender and parity expert for the EU-funded, ECES-implemented PRO Elección Bolivia project, served as a guest speaker at the International Congress of Latin American Women and Indigenous Women: "Walking Towards Parity and Democracy," held in Guatemala from January 21 to 23. The Vice President of Guatemala, Karina Herrera, and representatives from various indigenous organisations in the country participated in the event's sessions.

ECES expert Katia Uriona is a former president of the Bolivian Electoral Supreme Court, former director of our strategic partner La Coordinadora de la Mujer, and a top-notch election expert on democratic parity and prevention of political violence against women in Latin America. She leads our women´s political engagement component in Bolivia. During the congress, she presented two papers: one on lessons learned and good practices of parity and alternatives in electoral processes in Bolivia, and the other on the balance and challenges of parity in Latin America in the current evolving context. During her visit to Guatemala, Katia was invited to the National Congress to meet with Representative Sonia Guzmán.
