Moroni, March 8, 2025, as part of the celebration of International Women's Rights Day, ECES, through the Shawiri project, organized a Civil Society Conference on 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, in partnership with the United Nations and the Ministry of Gender. This conference was part of the activities to strengthen civil society advocacy, the project to strengthen social protection and the participation of women, young people and civil society (Shawiri) funded by the European Union.
Bringing together more than 70 representatives of Comorian women's civil society from all the islands of the Union of the Comoros, it made it possible to gather their recommendations on the continued implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 30 years after its signing by the Comorian State. A declaration was prepared and adopted and will be forwarded to the Ministry for the Promotion of Gender Equality, in the hope of ongoing formal dialogue between the authorities and civil society on gender issues.
The opening of the conference was marked by the presence of the Minister for the Promotion of Gender, Solidarity and Information, and speeches by the President of the National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms, the Acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System, the Head of the European Union Office, and the Head of the Shawiri project.
