As part of the Support project for the Parliament and electoral processes (PAPPE), the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) carried out an assessment mission to ten prisons within the jurisdiction of the Moundou Court of Appeal from 4 to 14 February 2025. The visit provided an opportunity to analyse the challenges relating to access to justice and their impact on detention conditions and human rights.

The mission provided an opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with the authorities on the role of the CNDH in promoting and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. The discussions highlighted the need to strengthen the judicial system and provide better care for detainees. The local authorities showed a better understanding of the CNDH's mandate and promised to step up their collaboration to improve the situation.

The PAPPE, financed by the European Union and implemented by the European Centre for Electoral Support, aims to promote democratic governance in Chad and to support players committed to extending fundamental freedoms.
