On 13 to 16 January 2025, the event of the pilot phase of the African Union Project for the inclusion and mainstreaming of the ACDEG in school curricula of Guinea-Bissau at CEIBA Hotel, Bissau organized by the African Union with support from the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) under the project “Pro-Electoral Integrity” and funding from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the opening ceremony, two speeches were pronounced, one from the Representative of ECES, Sylvestre Somo and from the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union in Guinea-Bissau H.E. Ovidio Barbosa Pequeno. Also attending, ECES founder and executive director, Fabio Bargiacchi to marked a pivotal step towards embedding democratic principles in educational systems.

The Keynote Statement was given to H.E. Herry Mané, Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The following 3 days (14-16 January) will be a technical workshop with 50 people, including experts from various African countries, African Union team and officials from the Republic of Guinea Bissau, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Education and Higher Education, as well as experts from the education sector, the youth, civil society organisations and relevant development partners to officially launch the pilot phase of the ACDEG Project.

This workshop to expect the objective to raise awareness on the ACDEG as an important normative framework and on the ACDEG Project among stakeholders of the education field and set a clear roadmap for the implementation of the Project in the country.
