Interview with the President of the ECES Management Board, Monica Frassoni, which was shot last year by our partner and film director, Jarreth Merz, with whom we have collaborated extensively in the context of the film documentaries on the 2008 elections in Ghana (An African Elections) and 2022 Kenya Elections (Kenya's Democratic Journey).
Monica explains her experiences as a democracy activist and practitioner while illustrating how ECES was established under the initiative of our Founder, Fabio Bargiacchi, and the impact and innovation that ECES has brought to the electoral assistance sector funded by the EU and EU member states.
She also mentions that conflict management is an inherent element of any democracy, and elections are the highest moment in which people become citizens and choose. This is precisely the idea that the election is essential.
Monica brought over 30 years of experience in European and foreign affairs, proactively contributing to the establishment and successes of ECES.
As a former Member of the European Parliament (for two mandates) and later as Co-chair of the European Green Party, Monica's passion for supporting women's and youth's political engagement and democracies constantly reinforced ECES's growth and experiences. Bringing as well on board her past experience as Chief Observer in two EU Electoral Observation Missions (EOMs), Bolivia and Venezuela, Monica advises and assists in all ECES activities, notably in terms of follow-up of the implementation of the recommendations of EU Election Observation Missions into electoral assistance activities.
