The European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), as part of its support for the Transition Authorities in Gabon with a view to the restoration of institutions through a credible electoral process via the Project to Support Civil Society and the Media in Gabon (PACEM-G), funded by the European Union, has just completed the final LEAD cascade training course in the town of OYEM on Friday 28 February 2025.

This training brought together 30 participants from civil society from various organisations, namely: COTED, 12 12 15, Femme Lève-toi, SOS Prisonnier, REDHAC, ONG Amour de Dieu, Jeunesse Interlecte, la bonne semence, Association force OYEM, ROC, Dynamique Uni, Gabon d'abord, AVOGAB; and media organisations such as: Gabon 24, Journal l'Union, Gabon TV OYEM, ADO FM, La Une Woleutemoise WebTV.

During the three days of training, participants were taught leadership skills to increase their capacities and were given tools to prevent and manage electoral conflicts, as well as good practices for electoral observation. The participants expressed the wish to see this type of training increase in Gabon, given its relevance and importance.

This training is the last of the four cascades that have enabled us to certify 10 LEAD trainers in Gabon. 105 participants have benefited from the expertise of the Gabonese trainers under the supervision of the certifying trainers Martin BANSE and Sylvestre SOMO.

In total, with the two training courses for trainers and the four cascades, we have just strengthened the capacities of 240 members of civil society and the media in leadership, conflict management and best practices in election observation.
