Funded by the European Union through its foreign policy instruments, on 24 January 2025 in Libreville, we announced the launch of a new project in Gabon: Project to Support Civil Society and the Media in Gabon (PACEM – Gabon)The project is being implemented by ECES, partnering with the Consortium des Organisations de la Société Civile pour la Transparence Électorale et Démocratique au Gabon (COTED Gabon) and in partnership with all Civil Society organizations that support democratisation and contribute to the transparency and credibility of elections and the media in Gabon.

The project aims to strengthen the democratic space in Gabon and contribute to the prevention of potential tensions linked to the elections by supporting and accompanying key non-state actors (CSOs and media) for an inclusive, credible and peaceful electoral process.

The project is being implemented with the following specific objectives:

  • To increase the knowledge and develop the skills of non-state actors by focusing on the root causes of and appropriate responses to electoral tensions.
  • Promote the inclusiveness and transparency of the electoral process by supporting civil society organisations in awareness-raising and election observation activities.
  • Promote conflict-sensitive journalism and support civil society monitoring of the media to identify and combat hate speech, risks of electoral violence and misinformation.
