As part of the Civil Society and Media Support Project (PACEM-GABON) implemented by the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), a two-day training session for journalists on election coverage is scheduled for March 7 and 8, 2025. Thirty participants from Gabon's public and private media will take part. The main objective of this training is to strengthen the skills of Gabonese journalists for professional coverage of the electoral process. Specific objectives include improving journalists' understanding of the role of the media and social networks during elections, as well as their responsibilities.
In addition, the training aims to refine journalists' skills to ensure fair and balanced coverage of the elections, to analyze hate speech and incitement to violence and their harmful impact, while offering an overview of international instruments related to freedom of expression. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop their skills in conflict-sensitive journalism and address the challenges faced by the media in covering conflicts, particularly with regard to the representation of young people and women.
This training is led by ECES experts, including Amirouche Nedjaa, senior media expert and coordinator of this project, assisted by Sylvestre Somo, senior electoral expert, and Thiburce Ndong, project advisor.
