We are proud to announce the launch of the "Governance Peace and Stability (GPS)» project to support the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), an intergovernmental organization that brings together the countries of the region, namely the Union of Comoros, France (on behalf of Reunion Island), Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles. The project has been funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and will be implemented over a period of 54 months and has received 8 million euros in funding. The official launching ceremony of the project will take place on September 22, 2022
The GPS project aims to contribute to stability, peace and governance in the Indian Ocean region and within the IOC member states, while respecting the sovereignty of states and the principle of subsidiarity. The overall objective of the technical assistance mission provided by ECES and CFI Media Développement is to support the IOC in the implementation of the project by strengthening its team and capacities in order to fully assume the advocacy and coordination role of the project as well as its sustainability.
The specific objectives set for the project are as follow:
- To improve the IOC's crisis prevention and mediation capacities;
- Support for the implementation of credible, transparent, peaceful and inclusive electoral processes;
- Support for the promotion of good governance, through institutional capacity building and the involvement of citizens in political and public affairs, especially youth and women;
- Strengthening the capacity of the IOC, particularly in its role in promoting peace, stability, governance and the rule of law.
