As part of the Shawiri project, funded by the European Union and focused on enhancing the social protection and civic participation of women, youth, and their communities, ECES is implementing the LEAD training for women leaders of civic society organisations (OSC) active in gender-related issues. The objective of this initiative is to foster the leadership development of women from diverse communities, equipping them with the tools to become mentors for other women, through training in leadership skills and political communication techniques.
This particular session, attended by a group of 25 female candidates for the upcoming legislative and municipal elections in the Union of Comoros, included the screening of a documentary produced by ECES. The film showcases the inspiring journey of Madame Sittou Raghadat Mohamed— the first Comorian woman to serve as a Member of Parliament, the first female Minister, and the current President of the National Commission for Human Rights and Liberties. Her groundbreaking achievements provide a powerful example for aspiring female candidates, motivating them to overcome obstacles and pursue leadership roles.
The primary aim of this training is to strengthen the capabilities of female candidates, assisting them in running effective campaigns and promoting greater female representation in the political and democratic processes of the Union of Comoros.
The LEAD training for women leaders of EMBs active in gender issues is being implemented in collaboration with the Platform of Women in Politics of the Indian Ocean, the Network of Women Leaders for Peace (RFLP), and the Art for Development association, which was responsible for curating the production of the documentary on Madame Sittou.
