Under the European Response to Electoral Cycle Support in Ethiopia – EURECS Ethiopia project, funded by the European Union and Germany, the European Centre for Electoral Support – ECES has implemented simultaneous police training in Addis Ababa, Adama, Bahirdar, Hawassa, Jigjiga, Semera, Diredawa, Benishangul and Gambella. Over 500 trainees participated in the trainings conducted from 14 – 15 May 2021.
The training was facilitated by the Ethiopian Police University in collaboration with the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE). Trainees were drawn from 11 Regional Police Forces, City Administration Police and the Federal Police. This follows the Training of Master Trainers in Bishoftu, Conducted by ECES in March. The Trained trainers will cascade the trainings to police stations and police barracks, training all 150,000 Police Officers.
With the overall objective of the EURECS - Ethiopia project to assist the NEBE with enhanced skills to deliver at their best capacity, this particular action seeks to contribute towards the integral role of law enforcement in maintaining a peaceful environment during an electoral cycle.
