Virginie Ramey initially worked as a journalist, while later she started working in the field of development after doing research on the role of media in peace processes. After working nearly six years in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the EU Delegation as a press officer and then as a political attaché, Virginie participated in the 2006 Election Observation Mission as a media expert.
While deployed at the EU Delegation in Sierra Leone, she managed several governance projects, notably in the field of elections, media and gender. Back at the EU Headquarters in Brussels, she specialised in gender equality, providing expertise to dozens of EU projects around the world, as well as leading several communication initiatives on this issue. Since January 2015, she has been responsible for information and communication in the European Commission's newly created Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement.
She holds a Master's degree in Philosophy (Lyon III) and an Advanced Study Diploma in Geopolitics (Paris VIII). She speaks French, English and Spanish.
