The activities of Pro-Dem Zambia are implemented under the overall objective of making democratic governance in Zambia more participatory, accountable, and inclusive, with more responsive institutions and informed civic engagement.
In this context, the specific objectives of PRO-DEM Zambia unfold in the following two main areas:
- Contributing to the improvement of the ability of state institutions to more effectively deliver on their democratic mandates and advance legal reforms.
- Empower civil society to conduct robust oversight of political and electoral processes, contributing to more transparent, accountable, and inclusive elections.
To achieve these objectives, the PRO-DEM Zambia project will contribute to strengthening the institutional and professional capacity of key actors such as the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the National Assembly of Zambia (NAZ), and the Judiciary, particularly when it comes to the implementation of electoral and political reforms. In collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and Christian Church Monitoring Group (CCMG), it will also support civil society organisations (CSOs) in their role of providing checks and balances by conducting an inclusive, non-partisan parallel vote tabulation, design long-term and election-day observation strategies, deploy observers nationwide, and turn the resulting data into clear, evidence-based public reports. These reports will feed back into reform advocacy, while a structured follow- up mechanism will document how well observation recommendations are implemented.
